Meet the Pros: Janet Marie
Get to know our local health and wellness professionals in the Twin Cities. We asked local Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner Janet Marie to share a little about her business and what she loves about practicing in the Twin Cities.
Tell us about your business. What do you do?
I am a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner by certification, but I call myself a PCOS Fertility Nutrition Coach because that is a better description of what I do and who I support. I help women trying to conceive with PCOS naturally support their fertility. I do this through 1:1 virtual coaching and am working on putting together an online group program!
What drew you to this work?
My own pregnancy. When I became pregnant I dove into the literature on a healthy pregnancy and I was appalled by the incredible lack of public awareness of the information I was finding.
If only more women knew! Is what I kept thinking to myself. I truly believe that helping women conceive and have healthy pregnancies will change the trajectory of the next generation.
What do you love about your job?
I love seeing women light up when they ovulate for perhaps the first time in years (or ever). That is what fuels me to keep doing what I’m doing.
What results can people see when they work with you? What’s possible?
My main goal is to restore hope and confidence to women trying to conceive with PCOS. Women can expect to be informed about their bodies and empowered to tune into the signals their body is giving them.
We’ll dig into your PCOS type and how to support that specifically. Women can expect to be given tools to support ovulation and their body’s natural production of progesterone for fertility.
Regardless of any additional support they are seeking to achieve pregnancy, they can expect to be empowered with knowledge and resources on a truly healthy pregnancy for a truly healthy baby.
What do you wish more people understood about what you do?
Working with a health coach is nothing like working with a doctor. The point is not to give you a long list of to-dos (prescriptions) and send you on your merry way to figure it out.
It first and foremost is a relationship that nurtures change in your life. The goal of my job is to EMPOWER you to know your body and how to nourish it for health and fertility.
What’s fascinating you right now?
Oh man… so much to be fascinated by! Vitamin D. Studies have shown that for women with PCOS, your Vitamin D levels are actually predictive of whether or not you will conceive and carry to term!
Choline. There is so much evidence showing that the RDA for Choline in pregnancy is just too stinkin’ low. Studies show cognitive benefits for children at over double the RDA. AND these cognitive benefits aren’t simply noticeable in the first few years of life. Differences in performance for those children whose mothers incorporated high levels of choline have been studied up to 7 years of age!
And what’s shocking is that fact that I would put money on the fact that you have never heard that before and your prenatal vitamin does not include choline.
What does self care look like to you right now?
In this season, self-care is a couple of hours of childcare to get some dedicated time in the Word, journaling, ideating, etc. And maybe doing some thrifting!
What do you love about living and working in the Twin Cities?
I really love the food scene here in the TCs. I also really love bodies of water. I’m drawn to them. So being around so many is a joy to me!
