Outdoor Yoga Classes to Try This Summer

outdoor yoga minneapolis

One of the best ways to celebrate summer is by taking your yoga practice outside and into nature. We have such a short few months of nice weather in Minnesota, so it’s natural to want to spend as much time as possible enjoying the outdoors. Want to learn more about yoga and the different yoga studios around the twin cities? Check out our free local yoga guide to find the right yoga classes and studio for you.

Outdoor yoga

Practicing yoga outside allows you to connect more deeply with the natural elements and engage all of your senses. Feeling the (sometimes lumpy) earth beneath you, the gentle breeze on your skin, the sun on your face, and noticing the scent in the air and the sounds of the birds in the trees.

Being out in nature has a natural calming and healing effect on our nervous systems, so embrace this new landscape. The ground may not be as even as a studio floor, but how can that help you find greater balance? The sounds of the world around you may be distracting, but how can that help you hone your focus?

When the weather hits just right for an outdoor yoga class, it can be the perfect reset for those of us who spend a lot of time indoors and in front of screens.

A few considerations before you go:

  • Protect yourself from the sun – depending on the time of day, you may need to wear sunscreen or grab sunglasses.
  • Bugs are out! Bring some eco-friendly bug spray or put some on before you leave.
  • Bring your own mat – and maybe a blanket to put under your mat, depending on the surface.
  • Grab a journal – take some time before or after class to reflect and journal about what’s coming up for you that day
